Jill Wiggins received the 2007 first place with "Don's Diner". She also won third place with "A Thunderous Life" that same year.
In 2009 her "Diving Deep to Breathe" was selected for screening.
Jill Wiggins is a documentary filmmaker. She focuses her work on people who are quietly extraordinary; people who
would otherwise not be noticed in daily life.
As a professional visual instructor at the Manchester Craftsmen Guild in Pittsburgh she teaches the complete process of
digital filmmaking to youths. This includes teaching the use of graphic softwares, stop-motion animation, how to create
digital music, the techniques of how to shoot videos and the post-production process. Working with youths means always
being at the forefront of new technologies. "My ultimate goal is to give young people a way to work through life's difficulties
using the arts."
Apart from documentaries Wiggins enjoys scriptwriting and use of narrative storytelling in films. "It is exciting to be an auteur
with complete control over the final product...very different from documentary storytelling."
Wiggins is pursuing higher studies in filmmaking at the Pittsburgh Filmmakers. She continues to be an urban youth mentor:
her mentorship begins with the arts but goes beyond that for youths struggling with personal issues.
Wiggins and VDFF collaborated for the Youth Video Workshop that was held in 2010. This workshop was the first of it kind for
the 4H Venango County youths.
